Clean Air

Limit/target values and thresholds

The national legislation defines the limit and target values, long-term objectives, and the thresholds for information and alert regarding the concentrations of polluting substances in ambient air in the Regulation on limit values for levels and types of polluting substances in ambient air, alert thresholds, deadlines for achieving the limit values, margins and tolerance for limit values, target values, and long-term objectives (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 50/05, Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 4/13, Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 183/17).

Limit and target values for SO₂, NO₂, CO, PM10, PM2.5, O₃, benzene, PAHs and heavy metals are defined with the aim of protecting human health. The alarm threshold indicates the level of concentration above which there is a risk of short exposure to the health of the person as a whole and in the event that immediate steps should be taken to improve the air quality.Alarming thresholds for concentrations of SO₂ and NO₂, as well as information and alarming thresholds for ozone and RM10 are defined in the legislation.
