The Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP), adopted in 1979, entered into force in 1983. The Republic of North Macedonia joined the Convention on November 17, 1991. Today, 51 countries are parties to it, addressing major environmental challenges in the UNECE region through scientific cooperation and negotiations.
The Convention's goal is to improve air quality at local, national, and regional levels through collaboration and the implementation of specific measures to reduce emissions from various sectors (industry, agriculture, transport, etc.). North Macedonia ratified all eight protocols of the Convention in 2010 (link)
and actively participates through the MoEPP in CLRTAP bodies such as the Executive Body, EMEP Steering Body, Working Group on Strategies and Review, and the Implementation Committee.
